IT’S the law! how can we support you?
Per New Senate File 2435 and with Guidance from the Iowa Department of Education, West Marshall Community School District is here to help families understand how children not attending school may be considered Chronic Absenteeism. This new law applies to all students ages 6 to 16.
Schools, Students, and Parents are to begin working in partnership when a student has been identified as missing for more than 10% of (non-exempt) days in a semester. Schools are then required to report all violations of Chronic Absenteeism as Truancy to the Marshall County Attorney’s Office once a student misses 20% of (non-exempt) days in a semester.
As seen in the table below we have provided additional guidance and hope to create a clear understanding of this new law as an overview to show what is required and how we can work together!
