The Department of Equity helps the West Marshall CSD fulfill our commitment and obligation not to discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, disability, or socioeconomic status in our educational programs, activities, or employment practices. We help to keep students, parents, and District staff informed about their civil rights and responsibilities under the law.

Annual Notice & Non-Discrimination

The West Marshall Community School District and Board will not discriminate in educational programs on the basis of race, creed, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, religion, marital status, socioeconomic status or genetic information. The Board and the District will not discriminate in employment opportunities on the basis of age, race, creed, color, gender, gender orientation, gender identity, national origin, religion, or disability. Further, the District and the Board affirm the right of all students and staff to be treated with respect and to be protected from intimidation, discrimination, physical harm, and harassment.

The Board and the District require all persons, agencies, vendors, contractors, and other persons and organizations doing business with or performing services for the District to subscribe to all applicable federal and state laws, executive orders, rules and regulations pertaining to contract compliance and equal opportunity.

The District has separate procedures for reports or complaints of sexual harassment governed by Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972.  These procedures are available on the Districts website.  For reports or complaints of sexual harassment outside of the District’s Title IX jurisdiction, the district may follow any other applicable policy or procedures to respond to such report or complaint.

Students who feel they have been discriminated against are encouraged to report it to the school district  Affirmative Action and Title IX Coordinator, Jake Randall – High School Principal. The District Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 Coordinator is Patti Edler – High School Counselor.  Any person having inquiries concerning the District’s compliance with this federal non-discrimination law can contact Patti or Jake at 641-483-2136 or jrandall@wmcsd.org or pedler@wmcsd.org.

Iowa Eligibility Privacy Act Statement

The Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act requires the information on the Iowa Eligibility Application. You do not have to give the information, but if you do not, we cannot approve your child for free or reduced price meals.  You must include the last four digits of the social security number of the adult household member who signs the application.  The last four digits of the social security number is not required when you apply on behalf of a foster child or you list a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program or Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) case number or other FDPIR identifier for your child or when you indicate that the adult household member signing the application does not have a social security number.  We will use your information to determine if your child is eligible for free or reduced price meals and for administration and enforcement of the lunch and breakfast programs. We MAY share your eligibility information with education, health, and nutrition programs to help them evaluate, fund, or determine benefits for their programs, auditors for program reviews, and law enforcement officials to help them look into violations of program rules.

USDA Nondiscrimination Statement

In accordance with Federal civil rights law and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) civil rights

regulations and policies, the USDA, its Agencies, offices, and employees, and institutions participating in or administering USDA programs are prohibited from discriminating based on race, color, national origin, sex, disability, age, or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity in any program or activity conducted or funded by USDA.
