school board election 23-24

The school election is held in odd-numbered years on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November to elect school district directors and merged area (community college) trustees and vote on public measures for these jurisdictions. It is held in conjunction with the regular city election, so the election is known as the city–school election.  Each school election is used to elect citizens to the board to maintain a 7 member board and to address questions that are submitted to the voters.

Citizens of the school district community seeking a seat on the board must file their nomination papers with the board secretary, or the board secretary’s designee. Each candidate must complete and file an affidavit of candidacy. The affidavit of candidacy form is available on the Secretary of State’s website

It is the responsibility of the county commissioner of elections to conduct school elections.

West Marshall will have four open seats for this upcoming election year.

Monday August 28, 2023 is the first day you can file nomination papers with Stephanie and the last day to turn in is September 21, 2023 at 5:00pm to the Superintendents office.  Each candidate must have 33 signatures on their nomination papers. Nomination papers can be picked up at any time during regular business hours in the Superintendent office or you can go to https://sos.iowa.gov/elections/electioninfo/schoolelections.html
