What is NHS?
The National Honor Society (NHS) elevates a school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These four pillars have been associated with membership in the organization since its inception in 1921.
Today, it is estimated that more than one million students participate in NHS activities. NHS chapters are schools across the USA in all 50 states. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.

Qualifications for NHS:
Selection takes place during the months of September/October, and typically we induct new members in early November.
NHS is a service organization that recognizes high achieving students at West Marshall. In addition to meetings and other school initiatives, are students are often called upon by the community to assist in different volunteer avenues.
West Marshall’s NHS Projects
December-Go to the Iowa Veteran’s Home every year at Christmas time to participate in the gift drive the American Legion Auxiliary does for the Veterans. The Auxiliary gives each veteran one gift to pick out and send to a loved one, which is shipped free of charge. Our students help with transporting residents to the gift shop, wrapping presents, and visiting with the veterans at IVH.
Spring-Every year, we do a blood drive in the spring, help Elementary with Dr. Seuss Day and we have done a Dance Marathon event in the spring semester for the last two years. We are currently planning our DM for March/April 2020. Last year, we spent time recognizing the teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week in Early May.
